The capacity for self-regulation is probably the single most important contributor to achievement, mental health, and social success. – Lawrence Steinberg, 2014
Practice Self-Regulation™️ (PS-R) is all about resilience and optimal development. It is a neuroscience-based and trauma-informed program promoting health and well-being.
PS-R teaches participants to put past trauma in a new light, manage emotions in healthy ways, and take steps toward achieving life goals. This program helps participants to recognize and restructure thoughts, regulate emotions and physiological reactions, and change behavior to achieve desired outcomes. PS-R addresses motivation to decrease problem behavior, manage impulsivity, negotiate, and practice health promoting and harm-free relationships.
Practice Self-Regulation for Sexual Health, our flagship program, supports healthy relationships and safe sex practices. It has been evaluated in two federally-funded randomized controlled studies from 2015 through 2021.
Practice Self-Regulation focuses on the five core components of affect-regulation: thoughts, feelings, and physiological reactions that influence decision-making, which in turn influence behavior and outcomes. The model reflects trauma-informed interventions promoted through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). All participants are served in accordance with evidence-based best practices, as defined by the American Psychological Association.

Everyone Can Be Trauma Informed
The purpose of this document is to clarify trauma-informed practice and to share effective strategies for using it in everyday life. As Wesley, The Dread Pirate Roberts said in the movie, The Princess Bride, “Life is pain, Highness, and anyone who thinks differently is trying to sell you something.” Trauma is typical in the United States, and it’s way past time to acknowledge its impact and explore effective solutions for managing and preventing it.
